The Savior

$25.95

The Savior is “A devotional commentary on the Life of Christ.”

The book follows the history of Jesus as recorded in the four gospels. It is based on a “harmony of the Gospels.” Gospel harmonies are attempts to merge all the accounts of Jesus life in chronological order. The book divides Jesus’ life into 32 chapters. Each chapter contains a number of devotions of varying length. When you finish the devotions, you will have meditated on Jesus’ entire life.

The Savior was written by Carl Manthey-Zorn (1846-1928) and originally published in 1909 by Northwestern Publishing House, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Translated by Rev. John J. Sullivan.

Translator John J. Sullivan describes this book:

“This book, originally published in the German language by Northwestern Publishing House, went through four printings, the last of which, in 1909, is the basis of this translation.

The author, Pastor Carl Manthey-Zorn, tells us for whom this volume was written: ‘The audience for whom I have written is not the learned people of this world but the people of Christ.’

“Drawing on the inspired Word of God, Zorn paints for us a faithful portrait of Jesus—who he is, what he did, what he taught, and how he revealed himself as God’s Son and the world’s Savior. In him we see the embodiment of love—his patience with sinners, his willingness to suffer and die on a cross to save the world, his glorious resurrection, and his ascension to the Father. And we learn what all this all means for us.

“Guided by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, the portrait of the Savior in this book will help you to ‘grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory, both now and forever’ (2 Peter 3:18).”
